Native Flowers of Vietnam

Vietnam is country situated in Southeast Asia. The climate of the country is tropical and the weather is quite diverse. Because of the diverse weather, various varieties of flowers are grown in Vietnam. In fact, this country is famous for producing various bright and colorful flowers year round. Some of the native flowers of Vietnam are discussed below.

Chrysanthemums

Known as ‘hoa cuc’ in Vietnam, Chrysanthemums have large blooms available in bright colors like red, yellow and orange. They have a mild fragrance and are quite long lasting. They are quite popular in the country and can be seen in the balconies and verandas of houses. They are also placed on alters. They are one of the four gentlemanly flowers of the country.

Lotuses

Lotuses are the national flower of this country. They are known as ‘hoa sen’ in Vietnam and can be found in colors of pink and white. The flowers grow in water and bloom during the summer. People of Vietnam use the Lotus for various purposes. They use the flower as a gift to gods, make tea out of the seeds and wrap green rice in the leaves. Like the chrysanthemums, it is known to be one of the gentlemanly flowers of Vietnam.

Peach Flowers

Peach flowers grow in North Vietnam. They are the symbol of the Vietnamese New Year as they are red in color and red signifies favorable opportunities in this part of the world. People also send them to the southern parts of the country at New Year as they are considered to be precious gifts especially on this occasion. Although they are available in other colors like pink or white, the red ones are the most popular.

Yellow Apricot Flowers

Yellow apricot flowers are also associated with the Vietnamese New Year. They are the southern counterpart of peach flowers on this occasion. As the name states, these flowers are bright yellow in color. The scent of these flowers is quite mild.

Da Lat Roses

These roses are native to Da Lat, which is a city in Vietnam. They are available in various colors and shades including red, yellow and pink. These flowers are quite long lasting as they can last from 7-15 days when placed in a vase. Moreover, they are quite famous all over the country and are bestsellers in big cities. In addition to Vietnam, these flowers are favored in Europe as well.

Besides the flowers mentioned above many other flowers are also grown in Vietnam, especially in the city of Da Lat. These include orchids, gladioli, pansies and wild sunflowers.
